Pahalgam (7,200 ft asl) is characterised by views of gurgling river criss cross across the town and snow peak views are all around to make a poster perfect destination. Places to visit are Shikergah, Dubian and Mamal Temple (dates back to 14th century), all which can be travelled on foot or pony. Popular places to visit comprise Chandanwari (16 kms) where one can find snow even in Summer. Day trekking around the area is also possible
Pahalgam is much away either from Doda district or Kashmir valley and therefore has never experienced any troubles related to local insurgency movements.
Pahalgam is excellent for Himalayan Photography. Rafting is conducted in Summer and Lidder river is full of brown trout as well for anglers.
