Sahyadri Ranges in Maharashtra is full of medieval forts, ancient caves and temples that are historically connected to Raja Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior. There are number of treks and trails that run round around these that offer great views and are hugely popular in monsoons and winters. The trails offer great views as one is left awestruck at the incredible skills of the people who build forts and temples at such treacherous heights
Naneghat, at 2427 ft, was a pass between the mountain ranges. Its use as a trade route dates as far back as the 1st century BC as noted by the inscriptions in the rock cut cave.
The thumb-like massif of Naneghat along Malshej Ghat is prominently set in the backdrop of Jivdhan fort and Vanarlingi pinnacle. Naneghat lies in between the Kalsubai & Bhimashankar range, offering great views of many peaks on either side of the Sahyadris.
Due to its location and the rich natural settings, the base of this pass is ideal for camping. A carpet of lush green grass over a small climb, an easy access to the main road, gurgling streams of fresh water make this an excellent trekking option.
