Nagarjunakonda is an excursion from Hyderabad (160 kms). It is a renowned Buddhist pilgrimage centre, now an island located near Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. It is named after Nagarjuna, an Indian master of Buddhism (2nd Century AD). The site was once the location of many Buddhist universities and monasteries, attracting students from all over Asia.
There is a large Buddha statue, which is a major tourist attraction. The area is also known for views of the valley from a viewing area near the dam, and home to a few natural waterfalls.
Guests typically stay at Hyderabad and make a day visit to the area.
