Mandi lies enroute (200 kms from Chandigarh) to Kullu Valley and hill station of Manali (110 kms). Mandi is typically a transit point before guests move onwards to Kullu valley and Manali. Mandi Lies in close proximity to Holy lakes of Prashar lake and Rewalsar Lake.
Prashar Lake lies 45 km north of Mandi at 8000 ft asl and is home to a 13th century temple dediecated to sage Prashar who is believed to have meditated here. Snow-capped peaks and looking down on fast flowing river Beas.
Rewalsar Lake is situated 24 kms from Mandi at 4000 ft asl and is sacred for Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs.
There are three Buddhist monasteries at Rewalsar. It was from here that the great Indian teacher and `Tantric` Padmasambhava left for Tibet.
Rewalsar has three Hindu temples which are dedicated to Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva and to the sage Lomas. It is here that the sage Lomas did penance in devotion to Lord Shiva
Sikh Guru Gobind Singh (22 December 1666 – 7 October 1708), the tenth Guru of Sikhism, also resided here for one month and therefore sacred to Sikhs.
The Sisu fair held in late February/early march, and the festival of Baisakhi are important events at Rewalsar.
