Mahurgad is a pilgrim centre and Shaktipeeth site. It is said to be the birthplace of Goddess Renuka. Goddess Renuka Devi temple is situated on a hillock at a distance of about 2.5 kms from the village of Mahur. Mahur is also said to be birthplace of God Dattatreya and is home to an ancient Dattatreya temple. 

Mahur is best visited as a day excursion from Nanded (126 kms).
