Coastal Drives
Konkan region (or Coastal Maharashtra) is renowned for its coastal roads that are popular for a drive all through the year for self-drive cars, bikers and cycling. The roads do not have much traffic, there are some spectacular viewpoints enroute and lush green countryside with a rural backdrop remains all through.
There are number of stretches that are interesting along the way, some even connected with each other via a ferry ride (that even takes cars).
# Alibaug – Nagaon – Revdanda – Korlai - Kashid - Nandgaon – Murud Janjira – Bikers and Cyclists are able to take their vehicles from Bhau cha dhakka (Cars will have to be driven till Alibaug before coastal road starts). Nagaon – Revdanda offers a typical internal coastal road feel whereas Kashid – Murud run offers spectacular Arabian Sea views.
# Divegar - Shrivardhan - Harihareshwar – Karde - Murud Harnai – Dapoli - Ladgar – Dabhol Jetty – Guhagar – Bikers and Cyclists are able to cross over from Murud Janjira over to Dighi side near Diveagar. Cars are required to take a slightly longer route. Diveagar is an idyllic beach. Harihareshwar has good beaches and is one renowned for Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu Pigrimage. Moving southward, Karde and Harnai are idyllic beaches which have now evolved into popular beach getaways. There are homely coastal cuisine on offer, Arjarle Ganesh Temple is interesting with superb sea views and the drives are lovely with lots of Sea views. Eventually from Dabhol jetty one moves over to Guhagar (Cars, Bikes and cyclists), a coastal town renowned for its temples and beaches.
# Hedvi – Ganapatipule – Ratnagiri – Ambolgad - Kunkeshwar – Malvan – Tarkarli – Deobag – Beyond Guhagar, the drive is through most quiet and green countryside till Ganapatipule, a renowned beach destination. Moving southwards one passes through pristine countryside, backwaters, rivers, rural landscape and idyllic beaches one reaches Malvan via Ambolgad (an idyllic beach), Kunkeshwar (Shore Temple). Malvan (and areas around such as Tarkarli / Deobag) areas are renowned for coastal cuisine, craft, temples, watersports and scuba diving center. This is best and most happening area of the trip and typically where the driving itinerary ends with a return or travel to Goa across the border via Vengurla (Idyllic beach).
