Kolhapur is one of the major cities in South of Maharashtra. Kolhapur is home to Mahalaxmi Temple, one of the Shakti Peetha temples and one of the most visited in Maharashtra.
There are three other excursion possibilities
Jyotiba Temple (17 kms uphill - 3100 ft asl) is an incarnation of three gods - Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and the seer Jamadagni. A mammoth colourful fair takes place on the full moon night of the Hindu months of Chaitra and Vaishakh.
Bahubali of Kumbhojgiri (27 kms from Kolhapur) has a 28 feet tall marble statue of Bahubali and is a temple of the 24 Jain tirthankaras.
Gaganbawda (55 kms – 3000+ ft asl) - Late Pujya Shri Gagangiri Maharaj spent most of his life meditating. Ashram is situated on the hill well known for its spirituality. Every year many devotees visit here for meditation.
