Kalka – Shimla Heritage Train is one of the four heritage train routes still operating in India. (Other three being Darjeeling (West Bengal), Nilgiris (Ooty) and Matheran(Maharashtra))
Kalka – Shimla heritage was the preferred route for travelers earlier to visit colonial hill station of Shimla. Today, it’s less of a transportation medium and more of an experience and therefore recommended mainly for experiential travelers.
Kalka – Shimla train route has three trains in a day. Morning two trains are mainly passenger trains recommended for locals. “Himalayan Queen” that operates in the afternoon has a heritage character and is the real tourist train and recommended for experiential travelers.
The morning Kalka – Shimla train is connected with overnight Kalka Mail from Delhi. The afternoon “Himalayan Queen” is connected with Morning Kalka Shatabdi for the convenience of the guests.
