View of Ramganga Reservoir from Dhikala
Corbett is a renowned national park at about 250-280 kms from Delhi and one that offers one of the best park experiences in India. Corbett is known for Bird watching, Wildlife (Including Tigers), nature walks / trekking and Trout / Mahaseer Fishing. There are very few Jungle lodges residing inside park boundaries that offer a “real” park experience as compared to host of other jungle lodges and getaway resort that are built on the periphery.
Dhikala range is the best and one that offers the best wildlife experience in Corbett. Dhikala range has only Forest Rest houses (FRH). Dhikala range is open from Nov 15th-early June. FRH offers very simple stays and an experience of staying right in the middle of the forest. Dhikala is the best for wildlife (ample tiger sightings) and Bird life. FRH in Dhikala have eletricity and have a canteen attached. FRH in Garial and Sultan have a canteen attached. Other FRH in Corbett do not have electricity (except solar power for limited time in evenings) and here guests are required to carry their provisions for meals.
Some of the other experiential lodges that are technically inside the park and offer unique and exclusive wildlife / bird watching experience include Hideaway River Lodge and Linger at Vanghat Lodge.
Inside Corbett is a must for experiential travellers and well heeled wildlife travellers looking for a non-touristy and unadulterated experience.
