Houseboat Cruise - Around Alleppey
Alleppey and its backwater network have given Kerala the name “Venice of the east”. Overnight Houseboat cruise in Alleppey backwaters of Kerala is considered to be one of the most romantic experiences and often highlight of any trip.
Houseboats are a traditional Kerala Rice Boat (known as Ketuvallam) cruises, which pass through villages, paddy fields, Coconut trees and gives a feel of backwater lifestyle real up close.
Guests can spend anywhere from 1 night to several weeks and enjoy the backwater lifestyle. All houseboats are exclusive (not shared) and accompanied by a navigator and a cool. Meals catered by houseboat are typical Kerala cuisine that is tailored to taste of the guests and often turn out to be one of the best cuisine experiences.
Alleppey town is situated on edge of the Vembanad lake on the opposite end of the Kumarakom and on the northern tip of the Kuttanad region, known for its backwater canal network and undersea level farming. Kuttanad region cruise often turns out to be the most exciting and therefore recommended over an above a Vembanad lake cruise which is like running a boat in an ocean like vast lake.
Houseboats come in various categories like Deluxe (AC or Non AC), Premium (AC Bedrooms), Elitaire (AC Bedroom and AC Living / dining area) catering to all guests.
Guests check in at 12 noon from Alleppey (or 12:30 if the pickup is from Kumarakom. This option is not recommended as it wastes time) and typically either get dropped back at 10 AM next day at Alleppey or 9:30 AM at Kumarakom (at a backwater resort). Guests staying longer can go deeper in backwater canal upto Alumkadavu (30 kms from Kollam).
Cruise times are fixed and boats get parked at the edge of the canal or lake in the evening for the overnight stay.
