Nako Monastery

Nako (11000 ft asl) list just a few kilometers off the point where NH-22 ends near Indo-Tibetan border, is the high altitude Oasis of Nako. Nako is a scenic lake front remote village in Kinnaur district in close proximity to high altitude desert of Spiti Valley. Nako monastery here is very significant for Tibetan Buddhism and followers of Dalai Lama.

Nako is also the starting point of an ancient trek route originally Buddhist monks used to take traveling between different monasteries in the region.

Nako is an excellent overnight stopover enroute Sangla Valley - Kaza route.
