Tabo Monastery (founded in 996 CE) lies 50 kms from Nako and is one of the most ancient monasteries in the area and significant for followers of Tibetan Buddhism. From Tabo guests also visit Dhankar Monastery, another prominent monastery in the area. 
 
Tabo lies at the beginning of Spiti Valley while approaching it from Upper Kinnaur. The area is extremely remote and accessible only between June - Sept.
 

Tabo is visited enroute Sangla Valley - Nako - Kaza route.
