Golden Temple (also known as the Sri Harmandir Sahib) at Amritsar was designed by the fifth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Sahib and was built in 1601 AD. Akal takht here is one of the Five Takhts of Sikhism and therefore the most important from the pilgrimage perspective.

There are number of relevant Gurdwaras around Amritsar within 100 kms radius that can be considered for a day visit ex-Amritsar such as:.

Tarn Taran Sahib (23 kms from Amritsar) was founded by the fifth Sikh Guru Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji around 16th Century. There are many Gurdwaras in Tarn Taran. The The main religious hub at Tarn Taran Sahib is Sri Darbar Sahib Tarn Taran, which has the largest holy tank in the world.

Khadur Sahib is situated by the Beas river at 38 kms from Amritsar, 20 Kms from Tarn Taran. Khadur Sahib is the sacred village where Guru Angad the second Master lived for 13 years, spreading the universal message of Guru Nanak. Here he introduced Gurmukhi Lipi, wrote the first Gurmukhi Primer, established the first Sikh school and prepared the first Gutka of Guru Nanak Sahib’s Bani.

Goindwal Sahib is 23 km from Tarn Taran on the situated on the banks of the river Beas. The Sikh Guru Arjan Dev was born there in 1563 and its now an important Sikh Pilgrimage centre.

Gurdwara Ber Sahib (20 kms from Goindwal and 25 kms from Kapurthala), the principal shrine at Sultanpur Lodhi is where Guru Nanak sat under a tree to meditate for over 14 years. There are several other Gurdwaras in Sultanpur Lodi for pilgrims to visit.

Baba Bakala Gurdwara (40 kms from Amritsar) is the historical shrine at Baba Bakala on the Gurdaspur Road.

Dera Baba Nanak (49 kms from Amritsar) - This is situated close to Pakistan Border. Dera Baba Nanak was built where once Guru Nanak visited in 16th Century.

Gurdwara Kandh Sahib (26 kms from Dera Baba Nanak) - This is where Sri Guru Nanak Dev marriage procession first arrived.

Kartapur (65 kms from Amritsar) - This is where Guru Arjan Dev and his successor Guru Hargobind Singh lived in late 16th century. There are number of Gurdwaras here

The circuit can be visited within 3 days ex-Amritsar.
