Chopta near Kund / Guptkashi area in Uttarakhand is renowned for its meadows and is base for trekking to Tungnath (3.5 kms), one of the Panch Kedar temples in the area.

There are number of treks that originate from Chopta including Tunganath, Deoria Tal, Chandrashila Peak (13000 ft asl at 1 km steep uphill trek beyond Tungnath). Chandrashila Peak offers stunning views of the Nandadevi, Trishul, Dunagiri, Hati peak, Neelkanth, Choukhamba and all connecting peaks towards the Gangotri range.

Chopta area is renowned for Himalayan Birds and bird watchers arrive here in good numbers during Feb – May period.

Chopta is considered 'Mini Switzerland' for its meadows and stunning snow capped mountain views. Best time to arrive here is May-June or Oct-Nov. Chopta is also visited as part of Char Dham trip by travelers who are looking to explore natural beauty of the area alongwith the Kedarnath pilgrimage.
