Chitrakoot is a town of religious, cultural, historical and archaeological importance, known for a number of temples and sites mentioned in Hindu scriptures. Lord Rama is believed to have spent 11 and a half years of their 14 years exile in forests around Chitrakoot. Prominent sages have also believed to meditate here.
 
Chitrakoot lies 200 kms from Wildlife destination of Bandhavgarh and about 170 kms from Heritage destination of Khajuraho, and lies on the Madhya Pradesh - Uttar Pradesh state borders.
