Chidambaram is a Lord Shiva pilgrimage centre on the Pondicherry - Thanjavur Route.

Nataraja Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Lord Nataraja, in his form of the Cosmic Dancer. Chidambaram is most visited for architecture of the temple as a part of the heritage circuit enroute between Pondicherry and Thanjavur.

The temple is a tribute to Bahratnatyam and is famous for the Natyanjali festival (Dance festival) held every year in Feb/Mar.

Ramalinga Temple here is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Ramalinga or Ramananda. The significant feature of he temple is the 1000 pillar hall.
