West Sikkim is home to many birds and the area is now visited regularly by Bird watchers. Kewzing (24 kms from Pelling) location is in the altitude of 1700m with the highest hill Maenam (3500m) and lower valleys of Rangit river valley 350m from the sea level is home to over 200 Bird species.
Maenam wildlife sanctuary is also home to the rare beautiful state animal of Sikkim the Red Panda. Around Pelling in West Sikkim is where one can spot number of Birds such as Rusty Cheeked Scimitar Babbler, Scaly Laughingthrush, Red Faced Liochichla etc. More birds can be seen at Khecheopalri Lake, 22 Km from Pelling as well. Barsey Rododendron Sanctuary (West Sikkim) is home to many birds and Sikkim Red Pandas.
The Birding watching trek can be done from Yuksam to Dzongri in the Khangchendzonga National Park where within the span of Eight to nine days good number of Bird species can be seen.
Bon Farmhouse is best option for any Bird watcher to arrive and stay for a week to explore the area.
