Shoghi (5500 ft asl), near Shimla (15 kms) is an excellent base for bird watching around Shimla. The area is full of wooded walks and is home to many different species of birds.
Commonly sighted birds in and around are White Eared Bulbul, Black Drongo, Spot Winged Tit, Blue Magpie, Kalij Pheasant, Blyth’s Reed Warbler, Brown Fronted Woodpecker, Black Headed Jay and Trumpeter Finch etc.
The local guides are able to take guests on birding trails to sight more than 150 varieties, some of them migratory.
Shoghi is excellent for bird watchers who are willing do 5-10 kms of forest walking and going deeper into the woods and around Gambhar River tributary where many birds congregate.
