Sasan Gir is a renowned national park at 160 kms from Rajkot and 60 kms from Junagadh and 62 kms from Veraval is known for being the only habitat of the Asiatic Lions.
Besides Lions, Leopards and Crocodiles, park is visited for more than 250 birds and about 50 other species (including the endangered lesser florican and the saras crane) are recorded in the grasslands along the periphery of the sanctuary.
Buffer area around Sasan Gir (Around Club Mahindra and Asiatic Lion Lodge) is home to mamy colonies of Painted Storks, Spoonbills, Wolly Necked Stork etc. and where more than 50 varieties of birds can be found in winter on just a regular nature walk.
Sasan Gir is part of Bird watching circuit of Gujarat connecting Little Rann of Kutch, Greater Rann of Kutch, Jamnagar, Porbandar, and Velavadar.
