Pangot (7000 ft asl), 15 kms from Nainital and 40 kms from Kathgodam Railway station is an established Bird Watching destination and alongwith Corbett and Bhimtal / Sattal makes for a Bird watching Triangle.

At Pangot one can see a variety of Himalayan species along the way such as lammergeier, Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, spotted & slaty-backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, rufous-bellied niltava, rufus Sibia, spotted Forktail, variety of thrushes etc. More than 150 birds have been recorded in the area. Cheeer Pheasant and Koklas Pheasant are target birds of the area alongwith khalij pheasant.  A morning drive to 20 kms from Pangot will yield more than 20 varieties of Himalayan species in Summer. A walk around Pangot and Kilbury Forest will also yield good results. The area is excellent for wooded walks, treks and an overall nature centric experience.

There are a few lodges here such as Mountain Quail Birding Lodge and all are geared to provide an excellent bird watching experience. Guests staying at Mountain Quail Birding Lodge are able to have more than 20 varieties in and around the lodge itself.

Pangot is a definitive experience for a bird watcher and one that is highly recommended for every bird watcher and offbeat traveller.

Recommended Stay Duration: 2-3 nights Season - Oct-Nov, March-May is good for Bird watching.
