Bird watching in Little rann of Kutchh
Little Rann of Kutch is renowned for its population of Wild Asses and visited for being the haven for bird watchers. The Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife sanctuary spreads over 4950 sq km in area comprising a range habitats from saline desert plains, arid grasslands, rocky and thorn scrub to lakes and marshes.
Among the Birds, Crested and Sykes larks, Oriental skylark, bimaculated lark, greater short-toed lark, singing and Indian bushlarks, ashy-crowned and black-crowned sparrow-larks, are likely sightings and greater hoopoe lark is possible. There are more than 200 varieties of birds that can be spotted in areas around Dasada / Dhrangadhra and Zainabad.
There are many lake and marshland areas such as Nava Talao and Kharagoda that offer opportunity to witness a spectacle with hundreds and thousands of Flamingos arriving there in winter. Alongwith Flamingos there are many much vaunted birds such as Pelicans, Painted Stork, Grey Lag Goose, Gadwall, Gargany, Avocet, Marsh Harrier, Short Eared Owl, Spoonbill etc. that can be spotted within a few hours around the lake.
Oct-March is best time to spot migratory birds, otherwise the area is visited all round the year.
