Bird Watching in Ladakh
Ladakh is a region in North East of state of Jammu and Kashmir having destinations at altitudes of 9000 to 15000 ft asl.
Ladakh is home to diverse range of birds both resident and migratory. More than 200 species are found in Ladakh around Tsokar Lake, Tsomoriri Lake, Pangong Lake and Nubra Valley area.
Some of the birds that are found in Ladakh include Chukor Partridge, Kestrel, Lammergeyer, Himalayan griffin vultures etc. Of the migratory birds the black necked crane, Bar headed Goose, Tibetan Snowcock, Brahminy Duck, Red Crested Pochard etc.
Ladakh is highly rewarding for bird watchers in June – Sept period when a lot of birds are sighted.
Alongwith birds Photographers are able to photograph Bacterian Camels, wide ranging diverse wildlife, high altitude desert with valley of flowers and some spectacular panoramas enroute.
Ladakh is therefore recommended for all photographers and bird watchers looking for Himalayan and high altitude birds.
