Resident and Migratory
Bhimtal and Sattal are twin lakes in Kumaon at about 300 kms from Delhi and 25 kms from Kathgodam Station and visited for Bird watching and a nature centric experience.
Some 230 varieties of birds are found only in Sattal region. You can spot babblers, tits, bulbuls, warblers, minivets, woodpeckers, pigeons , myna and the colourful barbets. At the Sattal Forest resort, the sunbird, the red billed magpie, the jungle myna, the long tailed minivet and Himalayan bulbul are spotted in the resort premises itself.
In the are combining Bhimtal and Sattal, 400+ resident and migratory birds, 20 species of mammals (excluding rodents) more than 525 species of butterflies and 11,000 plus species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects are found.
The flora covers a wide range of species including orchids, rare climbing plants, ground and tree ferns and fungi.
Recommended Stay : 2-3 nights Season : Oct-May is good for Bird watching.
