Andaman Islands are a set of islands in Andaman sea at about 2 hour flight hop away from Chennai. Andaman Islands is the farthest point on the east for an Indian territory.
Port Blair capital of Andamans Islands is typically where guests are required to arrive to visit destinations around Port Blair. In terms of feel it’s throwback tourism where right from the airport where you arrive, to hotels and pace of life is a complete 1970s throwback. No luxury hotels, no nightlife, no restaurant and no recreation facilities.
While Port Blair offers a laidback destination with sea views (it has only one beach i.e. Corbyns Cove), some touristy sightseeing and activities (most notably Cellular Jail and Watersports Complex), it also acts as an access point to visit more experiential Islands around such as Havelock which is now an Internationally renowned destination for Scuba Diving and honeymooners / travellers looking for a remote island experience.
Havelock Island (accessible from Port Blair via a ferry ride – 36 kms) offers crystal clear white sand beaches, small villages, green tropical forests and beaches. Havelock is about 10 kms from one end to another and therefore excellent for bicycling and simply spending a few days on a “Do nothing” holiday.
Wandoor is another area at 30 kms from Port Blair that offers good beaches and cut off stay.
Hotels in Andamans are simple and there are not many luxurious hotels around. Andamans in a nutshell offers a quiet and laidback experience that is recommended for guests who look for crystal clear waters, laidback destinations and not seek hospitality centred around luxurious getaway resorts.
