Trekking
Sahyadri Ranges in Maharashtra is full of medieval forts, ancient caves and temples that are historically connected to Raja Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior. There are number of treks and trails that run round around these that offer great views and are hugely popular in monsoons and winters. The trails offer great views as one is left awestruck at the incredible skills of the people who build forts and temples at such treacherous heights
Ahupe Ghat is nestled between the ridges of Malshej Ghat and Bhimashankar. The approach to this mountain is a 4 hour walk through paddy fields, streams, thick forests. The ghat is actually a trade route between the villages of Mhasaand Ghodegaon, used even today by locals for their weekly market logistics. The village atop Ahupe plateau neighbours the Bhimashankar forests. One can stand atop Ahupe and gaze into the twin peaks and a spectacular waterfall (during peak rainy seasons). Typically trekkers stay at the village school or at a villager’s home, with some traditional cuisine for dinner and return next day.
