Kumaon Religious Itinerary : 5 nights / 6 days Nainital (1)-Almora(1)-Abbott Mount(1)-Patal Bhubaneshwar(1)-Bageshwar(1)


This is a religious Itinerary to visit temples of Kumaon. Kumaon Region has several very significant Shiva Temples such as Baijnath, Jageshwar, Bageshwar, Mukteshwar Mahadev, Bhimtal Mahadev.

 

Day 1:- Transfer from Kathgodam to Nainital (36 kms, 1 hour). Visit Naina Devi temple. Visit Bhimtal Bhimtal Mahadev Temple (35 kms) and  Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple (50 kms). Overnight at Nainital (Full List) or Mukteshwar (Full List). 

Day 2:- Morning transfer to Almora (90 kms, 3 hours). in Almora you are never far from a temple e.g. Kasar Devi Rock Inscription and Temple, Katarmal (temple to the sun god) 17 kms on the Ranikhet road (only 3 kms by foot),  Jalna 32 kms away has ancient temple of Vishnu. Overnight at Kasaar Jungle Resort in Almora. 

Day 3:- Morning depart for mount Abbott (120kms). on the way visit Chitai temple (6 kms from Almora), Lakhudiyar rock paintings (20kms from Almora, of the stone/bronze age era), Jageshwar Dham (35 kms from Almora) and Rameshwar temple (40 kms before Abbott Mount). Evening relax at Abbott Mount. Overnight at Abbott mount

Day 4:- Morning leave for Mayawati Ashram (17 kms, 1 hour) and then travel north to Patal Bhubneshwar (105 kms, 5 hours) on the way option of visiting ancient temples at Phuntsil village near Guptari at Patal Bhubneshwar visit the temple complex and the limestone formations overnight at Parwati Resort at Patal Bhubneshwar.

Day 5:- Morning depart for Bageshwar ( 85 kms, 4 hours) and on the way at Berinag there are many nag temples and also the famous temple of Tripura Devi...enjoy Himalayan views from Chaukori, famous temple of Badrakali. Bageshwar is like Shiva's town everything around is dedicated to Shiva.there are about 15 shrines and the famous temple of Baghnath. Overnight at KMVN guest house at Bageshwar. 

Day 6:- Morning visit remaining temples in Bageshwar and then depart for Kathgodam (150 kms, 6 hours) to arrive in time for onward journey.

 

Note: Above can be extended upto 8 nights by increasing one night at Almora or Abbott Mount or Bageshwar or all three to have a relaxed trip or cover more temples.

Season : Can be visited all round the year. However Summer (April-June) are better from weather point of view.
Access: Kathgodam is accessible by overnight Train from Delhi (325 kms from Nainital).
