Birding Lodge, Pangot - Jungle
Lore Birding Lodge is Located at Pangot in the northwestern forest range of Nainital
at 15 kms from Nainital. It is Surrounded by thick oak and forest on three sides
this lodge. The
entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point
and Kilbury, the main habitats for excellent birding. One
can see a variety of Himalayan species along the way such as lammergeier, Himalayan
griffon, blue-winged minla, spotted & slaty-backed forktail, rufous-bellied
woodpecker, rufous-bellied niltava, khalij pheasant, variety of thrushes etc.
Almost 150 bird species have been recorded at Pangot and surrounding areas.The
numerous perennial & seasonal creeks are home to an amazing variety of flora
and fauna including the leopard, yellow-throated Himalayan martins, Himalayan
palm civet, ghoral, barking deer, sambhar etc. Green
Glen Lodge, Sattal - The Green Glen lodge is located
at 5000 feet in a small village of Bhakgtura , 4 km from Saatal in Nainital district.
Green Glen is flanked by pine and oak forest . A little dip pool attracts various
species of birds including occasional kingfisher and Forktail. This is an ideal

Mount Cottage - Abbot Mount is situated at an altitude
of about 7,000 ft above sea level in the eastern part of the Kumaon Hills near
the town of Lohaghat in Champawat District. There are lovely walks and day treks
in and around Abbott Mount. It is a bird watchers paradise with a huge variety
of Himalayan birds in the trees around the house. In the summer the garden is
alive with the gossamer hues of large variety of butterflies. Camp

This private estate in the hills is now open to select visitors who desire a getaway
in the midst of nature. The stay is a haven for Birders. The best season to explore
the valley for birds is undoubtedly autumn and winter when both altitudinal migrants
from the higher Himalayas and palaearctic region assemble here. However, spring
and post -monsoon are best for observing the passage migrants, while pre- monsoon
and monsoon seasons are perfect to observe breeding of summer visitors and residents.
A total of 23 ‘globally threatened’ avian species listed in IUCN Red list have
been recorded in the valley which is habitat for more than 400 species of birds.
