Ex-Mumbai Train Getaways in and around Rajasthan

 

Following destinations are accessible from Mumbai by a train for a getaway.

Mount Abu which is the only Hill station in Rajasthan and accessible via convenient overnight trains to Abu Road (22 kms Mount Abu). Abu enjoys cold weather in winter and is pleasant in summer and has charming heritage hotels like Bikaner House, Kesar Bhawan offering charming and relaxed stays. 

Little ahead of Abu Road is Sirohi and Falna which are access points for Ranakpur / Kumbhalgarh and village retreats of Narlai and Ghanerao, Two getaways in close proximity to Udaipur (50-70 kms), another major destination in Rajasthan. From Sirohi, wildlife retreats known for their leopard sightings such as Siana are also accessible. 

On the same Route as Abu Road and Falna, is Jodhpur, a major tourist destination in Rajasthan. Jodhpur and around, offers all categories of stays from a Palace to a homestay, all seek to offer an authentic rajasthani experience.    

On an all together different route (Mumbai-Delhi Route), Sawai Madhopur is a major station which is just 12 kms from famous Tiger reserve of Ranthambhore and it has excellent overnight connections from Mumbai. 

On the Same route as Sawai Madhopur, Mathura, just outside the Rajasthan border is a well-visited pilgrimage destination for Lord Krishna devotees.  60 kms from Mathura is Agra, well known for the Taj Mahal and Bharatpur, a well known bird sanctuary known for its migratory bird population in winter. Ajmer and Pushkar are excellent twin options with direct train access from Mumbai. Ajmer is known for its Dargah and Pushkar has number of getaway resort like options.
