Belgaum has a large military base and is one of the bigger cities in Karnataka after Bangalore and Mangalore.

Belgaum is also a base point for visiting Dandeli (about 60-80 kms), a tropical rain forest known for White Water Rafting and Rainforest experience.

From Belgaum is also a base point for visiting Amboli (60 kms) which is an idyllic hill station that comes alive during monsoon when numerous waterfalls abound the area. 

From Belgaum one can also access coastal Maharashtra and Tiracol Fort (125 kms).
