MP/ 02 - Ex-Nagpur Wildlife Getaways in Central India

Nagpur is surrounded by as many as 3 Wildlife Sanctuaries and even a possible 4th and 5th a little farther.

Upto 200 kms

Tadoba (Maharashtra) - 160 kms in the Chadrapur District of Maharashtra. Has limited accommodations but known for its Tiger sightings.

Nagzira (Maharashtra) - 70 kms eastwards towards Raipur. Has only homestay accommodations and very limited safari infrastructure.

Pench (Madhya Pradesh) - 90 kms towards Jabalpur. Has extensive accommodations and one of the healthiest tiger population. Relatively newer park and most accessible wildlife flight getaway (None of the other parks with good getaway resort infrastructure and park infrastructure are less than 90 kms from an airport).

Above 200 kms

Melghat Tiger Reserve - 250 kms westwards in Maharashtra. Park Infrastructure is poor and therefore more known for the hill station / monsoon destination nearby, Chikhldhara.

Kanha - 250 kms (One takes a detour after Seoni on the Jabalpur Road). One of the best parks in India and known for its rare Barasingha population and healthy Tiger population. Resorts / lodges are situated at Kisili and Mukki ends of the park.

Accommodation Option - Pench / Kanha - Chikhaldhara - Tiger Trails Lodge - Tadoba Wildlife Reserve (Near Chandrapur) - Woods Heaven (Nagzira)

Seasonality - End Dec, Jan could be very cold and could turn foggy making early morning safaris, sightings that much difficult. Otherwise any other time during Oct - April is good for a wildlife getaway.
