: Daman is an erstwhile Portuguese colony and now an industrial township.
Daman sports a long beachfront with a lot of hotels reminiscent of North Goa.
Daman is a popular weekend getaway ex-Mumbai and Surat. Sightseeing spots around
here comprise an old church, a harbour, a couple of waterparks (for kids) and
more secluded Old Daman (Jhampore) beach.
Silvassa
is a another industrial township 35 kms (away from the beach) from Daman, part
of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory. Silvassa has a lot of spots that
would keep a tourist busy (Madhuban Dam, Lion Safari, Deer Park, Tribal Museum,
Dudhni lake with boating, Garden with boating etc.). Khanvel is located at another
end (15 kms north of Silvassa) of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory and
greener and more secluded than Silvassa and closer to Mumbai.
