Kovalam/Varkala/Poovar - Anapara
(Recommended 4-5 nights) - Chowara, Muloor and
Samudra
Beaches
at Kovalam have
resorts with beach access and good sea views.
Some of the resorts are spread out and have a very relaxing atmosphere to
it. Alternatively Poovar at 20 kms from Kovalam is also a good option with backwater/beach
combination and a three very good resorts, all spreadout and ideal for a short-break.
Instead of Kovalam, Varkala at 60 kms north of Kovalam is a more off-beat alternative
but availabilities here are better in the Peak season as compared to Kovalam and
some guests prefer the atmosphere of the Cliff to the atmosphere of
Hawa
Beach
. Only flip side
in Varkala is that it does not have as many resorts sporting great sea views.
Anapara
enroute to Ponmudi is a Jungle retreat, 50-60 kms from Kovalam (depending on where
you are at Kovalam) provides interesting variation with a Rubber Plantation stay
with a lot of activities (Visit to Waterfalls, Jungle Walks, Treks etc.) and Luxury
and exclusivity of Private Pool Villas and an 130 acre plantation. Accommodation

Kollam

Varkala / Kovalam
(Recommended 4-5 nights) - To add to the Varkala / Kovalam Beach stay, Kollam at 60-80 kms north of Kovalam
(40 kms North of Varkala) provide an interesting backwater option. Kollam, though
located on the sea has two backwater stretches (Ashtamudi and
South Paravoor )
around it. District promotion Counsel (DTPC)
runs a houseboat service as well for
overnight stay.There are number of interesting homestays around here as

Kanyakumari - A Pilgrimage / Spiritual destination with a beach
front at 100 kms from Trivandrum just across Kerala Border with Tamilnadu,
has now getaway type resorts and therefore a getaway option ex-Trivandrum. Kanyakumari
stay can be combined with Varkala / Kovalam / Poovar and Anapara as well. Accommodation

Trivandrum Railway station gets trains from all major centres in South India and
metros and mini-metros in India. Note:
Guests arriving at Cochin (on account of better connectivity / flight
fares), Ashtamudi (180 kms from Cochin Airport) would be a good option along with
Kovalam or Kanyakumari. |
