KAR/07 - Mysore(2 nights) - Bandipur (1 nights) - Ooty (2 nights) This is a short-break Tourist itinerary that covers heritage city of Mysore, Tiger reserve of Bandipur and Hill station of Ooty.

Day 1: Arrive at Bangalore and transfer to Mysore (150 kms). Relax for the rest of the day.
Day 2: After breakfast Visit to the Mysore Palace, Srirangapatna, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and Vrindavan Gardens in the evening. 
Day 3 : After breakfast leave for Bandipur (80 kms). Evening Jeep Safari.
Day 4: After Breakfast leave for Ooty (7500 ft, a hill station in neigboring Tamilndu) (50 kms). After lunch for for 1/2 day sightseeing.
Day 5: After Breakfast relax and do shopping in the evening or additional sightseeing.
Day 6: Leave for Coimbatore (85 Kms - 2 hours) after breakfast.

Mysore is a city of palaces, gardens, shady avenues and sacred temples and retains some of the charm of the old world with its many institutions that propagate Carnatic Classical music and dance.

Places of Interest in Mysore

  • The Mysore Palace - Once the residence of the Wodeyars, this structure is one of the largest of its kind in India . Built in 1912 in the Indo Saracenic style.

  • Jaganmohan Palace : This is a converted art gallery which houses paintings that date back to the late 19th century. 

  • Chamundi Hill : Perched atop a hill is a 12th century temple of Chamundershwari . About 13 Kms from Mysore by road these is also a 1000 step walking track for all those young at heart to try. The gigantic 4.8 meter tall monolith of Nandi the sacred vehicle of Lord Shiva is a marvel to watch. Also close to the temple stands a gigantic statues of the demon Mahishasura.

  • St. Philomena's Church : This beautiful Cathedral was built in 1956 and is one of the largest churches in the country. It has been built in the Gothic style with beautiful stain glass windows and lofty towers.

  • The Mysore Zoo : One of the county's best zoo, this is famous for rare animals bred in captivity and is housed in lush green surroundings.

  • Brindavan Gardens : 19 Kms north west of Mysore is the famous KRS dam.

Surrounding Places of Interest

  • Srirangapatna : 14 Kms north east on the Bangalore Mysore highway, this island fortress was once the capital of the warrior king Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. There are beautiful monuments that are well worth a visit.

  • Nanjangud : 23 Kms of Mysore . This is an important pilgrim center and is famous for its Nanjundeshwara Temple (from which the place derives its name).

  • Sangama : This is 3 Kms from Srirangapatna where the two branches of the river Cauvery reunite in joyful exuberance.

  • Ranganathittu : 4 Kms from Srirangapatna and 18 Kms from Mysore is a bird sanctuary that houses exotic birds. Birds from as far away as Siberia and even North America make their home here. Crocodiles basking in the sun is also a familiar sight.

  • Somanathapur : 35 Kms east is this famous village which has the 13th century Hoysala Temple . The temple is in excellent condition has frescoed exteriors with episodes from the epics.

  • Melkote : 50 Kms north of Mysore is this sacred pilgrim center know for its Vairamudi festival in March/April. More than a lakh visitors congregate here for the festival. This place is also famous for its handloom cloth.

  • Talakadu : is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery and is buried beneath sand dunes. Its temples are opened for worship on special occasions once in 12 years.

Udhagamandalam (Ooty) (State: Tamilnadu Category: Hill Station) (2 nights):

Udhagamandalam (Ooty), the capital of Nilgiri district, is popularly known as the "Queen of hill stations' among the tourist circuits. It is situated at a distance of 32 kms from Masinagudi and 105 km away from Coimbatore . The establishment of numerous tea estates made Ooty famous. Lofty ountains, dense forest, sprawling grasslands and miles and miles of tea gardens greet the passengers on most routes. The annual Tea and Tourism Festival attracts crowds in huge numbers.

 Prime Attractions of Udagamandalam

Botanical Garden Botanical gardens are a major tourist attraction for those who visit Ooty, one of the most popular hill stations of India . They sprawl over 50-acres and lie on the lower slopes of Dodabetta peak, which is the highest point in Ooty
Government Museum - Ooty It has items of tribal objects, district's ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu.
Kalhatty Falls The Kalhatty falls are located on the Kalhatty slopes at about 13-km from Udhagamandalam on the Udhagamandalam - Mysore Kalhatty ghat road., the water here cascades down a height of 122m.
Kandal Cross Shrine Kandal cross, a Roman Catholic Shrine considered, as the Jerusalem of the East is located in Udhagamandalam in Tamil Nadu. The Nilgiri Catholics consider it as the "Calvary of Tamil Nadu
Mini Garden & Rose Garden The Rose Garden is situated about 3 to 4-km away from Charring Cross.
Ooty Lake The beautiful Ooty Lake is a favourite haunt of tourists

Festivals

Summer Festival : There is several beautiful hill stations in Tamil Nadu. With the Summer Festivals, the hills are even hospitable to welcome the visitors.

Tea and Tourism Festival : Akin to the nectar of the Gods is the Camellia Sinensia, which is a bush that gives fragrant amber ambrosia-a refresher. In other words, TEA.
