Sonmarg : Sonamarg at 8200 ft is the gateway to Ladakh on the Srinagar-Leh road. And serves as start point for yatra to amaranth. At Sonmarg you see towering snow capped mountains all around.

Due to inadequate accommodation its typically day visited from Srinagar. However luxury hotels are slated to arrive there soon and Sonmarg will be worth staying for more than 1 night.

Seasonality - Area opens for Summer in Mid-march and mid-April to September is a good time to visit. Amarnath Yatra period during June-July is peak season when hotel rooms here go full. 

Access - Srinagar Gets direct flights from Mumbai, Jammu and Delhi. Sonmarg is about 85 kms (3 hours) away.
