(5000 ft asl) is a small town with scenic snow peak views.
Patnitop is a popular stopover on the Jammu - Srinagar route.
There are a
few temples, view points for guests staying for more than 1 night. Places to
visit comprise Nag Temple, Shudh
Maha Devi ka Pahad That Houses The Holy Trishul, Chinar Garden, and Sanasar
(20 kms)
Patnitop
in Winter (Jan-March) becomes a getaway resort and gets local visitors
for the snow experience it offers.
Its
not advisable to travel beyond Patnitop to destinations in Kashmir in
Winter as the Jawaharlal Nehru Tunnel ahead could get blocked due to
heavy snowfall. (Those who still wish to visit Kashmir should opt to fly
into Srinagar instead). Seasonality
- Winter (Jan-March) is when it snows here or areas around (like Sanasar).
April - Dec its an off-beat destination with very little crowd and good
scenic views and visited in transit enroute to Srinagar or going back
from Srinagar to Jammu.
Typical
Stay - 1 night if you travelling in Summer (April-Nov) as a transit
destination enroute to Srinagar or Jammu. 2 nights in Winter (Jan-March.
when Patnitop doubles up as a getaway resort offering snow experience).
