HP - 17 - Full Himachal - In an Off-beat Way

Route - Chandigarh arrival - Siswan (1 night) - Sohja (2 nights) - Manali / Solang (3 nights) - Palampur / Dharamsala (2 nights) - Dalhousie / Khajjiar (2 nights) - Pragpur / Kikar Lodge (1 night) - Chandigarh departure.

Highlight - Himachal Pradesh is a tourist destination and well-visited. Most guests have visited the touristy Himachal earlier. This is an itinerary where guests can enjoy wooded walks, off-beat stays and still enjoy comfortable stays. 

Destinations to visit

Sohja (8500 ft asl) - This is 40 kms off the Manali route and about 150 kms from Rohanda. Area is full of views, walks and Banjara Retreat is an excellet stay that facilitates Walks, bird watching and treks. Typical Stay : 2 nights

Manali (7000 ft asl) - Within Manali area Simsa is a small hamlet 10 kms short of Manali. Excellent walks all around the area and place is cut off and feels like a Swiss village. Holiday cottages is one that is good here. 120 kms from Shoja. Solang is another area 15 kms beyond Manali. While manali has a commercial feel, solang is where all the activities are conducted and has an experiential feel. Solang Valley Resort is an excellent stay option taht facilitates a lot of different activities while providing a comfortable stay. 25 kms from Simsa. Typical Stay : 3 nights

Palampur / Dharamsala (3000 - 3500 ft asl) - Tea Plantation country. There are number of heritage stays here none better than Taragarh Palace. Tara Villa Homestay is a homely plantation stay. The area is full of options for trekking, hang gliding, museum, art village, monastery visits etc. At Dharamsala White Haven Estate is an excellent stay for the kind you are looking at cut off and very scenic. Palampur is 200 kms from Manali and Dharamsala is 30 kms ahead. Typical Stay : 2-3 nights

DalhousieKhajjiar (6500 ft asl) - This was a getaway destination for the pre-independence Lahore and now an idyllic hill station (6500 ft asl) and sports very good Hilamayan views around. A Grand View heritage wing stay will take you back in time and give a feel of the Raj era heritage stays. Khajjiar in turn is even more laidback and here one can enjoy wooded walks and himalayan views. Royale Residency 150 kms from Dharamsala and Palampur. Typical Stay : 2 nights 

Temples of Kangra Region - Jwalamukhi, Chintpurni, Brajeswari, Chamundadevi are well visited. Judges Court Pragpur is an excellent stay option if idea is to explore all these except Chamundadevi which is visited from Palampur. Those who are not interested in visiting the temples can visit the heritage / craft village of Pragpur. Typical Stay : 1 or 2 nights. However guests interested in crafts and heritage can stay longer.

Ropar Wetlands - 60 kms before Chandigarh is Ropar, home to Ropar wetlands. , these wetlands are rich in Biodiversity and excellent for bird watching. Kikar Lodge is a stay that facilitates Ropar Wetlands experience. Typical Stay : 1 or 2 nights

Dalhousie - Pragpur - 200 kms (upto 5 hours)
Pragpur - Chandigarh - 200 kms (upto 5 hours)
Dalhousie - Ropar - 320 kms (upto 7 hours)
Ropar - Chandigarh - 60 kms (1.5 hour)

Access - While Amritsar, Jammu, Chandigarh and Gaggal (Kangra Valley) have flights ex-Delhi, for an itinerary such as this Chandigarh is an ideal base point to arrive. For International arrivals, Delhi is an ideal base point from where direct road connection to Ropar is recommended.
