Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrival at Kathgodam. Proceed to Pangot Arrival at Kathgodam and drive to Pangot (40 kms - 2 hours). Pangot is a hamlet at 15 kms Nainital. Walking into Pangot is like stepping into a remote Himalayan village. Pangot is a birdwatchers' paradise has more than 250 species of birds in and around recorded.

Day-2 Bird watching around Pangot Early morning and afternoon / evening walks through the terrace fields into thickly wooded oak forest.

Day-3 Pangot - Sattal. Bird watching in Sattal Leave Saattal (35 kms-1 hr). Saattal is a thickly wooded evergreen forest area and is one of the less visited lakes of Kumaon and is a scatterred undeveloped area & is one of the most pleasant destinations for spotting Himalayan bird species. Undertake walks around Sattal area for bird watching.

Day-4 Bird watching in Bhimtal Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal are two lakes around Sattal within 15 km radius. Forest area around Bhimtal is renowned for its bird species. Drive to these lakes and then undertake walks around the area for bird watching.

Day-5 Sattal - Corbett. Evening Jeep safari to Sitabani Range Leave for Corbett (75 kms - 2 hours). Corbett National Park is a large area of dense evergreen forest with rivers flowing through and is renowned for having more than 400 species of birds and is a must visit for any bird watcher. Evening Jeep drive to Sitabani range.

Day-6 Morning and Evening walks for Bird watching in Corbett Take morning and afternoon walks in the nearby forested areas and riverbeds for Bird watching.

Day-7 Morning and Evening Safaris Morning safari to Bijrani range. Afternoon safari to Durgadevi range. Both ranges are known for their excellent bird watching.

Day-8 Depart for Kathgodam Drive back to Kathgodam (40 kms)

Detailed Sightseeing

Corbett :

  • Wildlife and Bird Watching in Corbett - Corbett offers one of the best nature centric experiences in India and is renowned for its riverside beauty, Mahaseer / Catfish angling, walking, wildlife and Bird watching. Jeep safaris are on offer from 4 ranges (popular being Birjrani, Durgadevi, Jhirna). Corbett is home to the highest number of Bird species (resident as well as migratory) among all other parks and areas in India. Wildlife here comprises elusive Tiger, Leopard alongwith a range of well sighted deer species.

Pangot :

  • Walking and Bird Watching at Pangot - Pangot is renowned for its wooded walks and Bird watching. The area is cut off and offers off-beat stays. More than 150 birds that have been recorded in the area.

Saattal :

  • Naukuchiatal / Sattal / Bhimtal Lakes - Considered lake districts of Kumaon, Bhimtal / Sattal / Naukuchiatal (5 kms from each other) are three high altitude (3000 - 4500 ft asl) lakes that offer green surroundings, wooded walks, excellent views and where guests can do a bit of Boating.

  • Sattal Lake - Sattal Lake is set amongst dense forests of oak and pine trees. Sattal is less visited as compared to Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal and therefore least touristy of lakes in Kumaon area. Migratory birds arrive here in large number in Winter and early Summer and therefore the lake is excellent for Bird watching.

  • Walking and Bird Watching in Bhimtal - Walking around hills of Bhimtal is very popular. The area is green and thickly forested and offers excellent for bird watching and photography. Combining Bhimtal and Sattal there are 400+ resident and migratory birds, 20 species of mammals (excluding rodents) more than 525 species of butterflies and 11,000 plus species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects that are found.

Destination Overview

Kathgodam - Kathgodam is also access point to visit Lake districts of Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal and Sattal (All about 20-25 kms from Kathgodam and at about 3000-4000 ft asl) and hillside hamlets of Ramgarh (6500 ft asl), Mukteshwar (7500 ft asl), Almora / Binsar (6500 - 8000 ft asl), Ranikhet (6500 asl) & Kausani (6500 - ft asl).

Pangot - Pangot is small village 15 kilometers from Nainital. 150 bird species have been recorded at Pangot and surrounding areas. The area is excellent for walks, bird watching and off-beat getaways.

Saattal - Sattal is a collection of seven interconnected freshwater lakes, located in the Kumaon Lake region, just 22 km from Nainital and 7 kilometers from Bhimtal. Set at an altitude of nearly 4,000 ft, these lakes are surrounded by pine and oak forests

Corbett - Corbett experience is one of the best wildife expereinces in India alongwith Kanha, Nagarhole and Kaziranga. Corbett is good for bird watching and Wildlife.
