Hilario is an
ancestral house located amidst the natural splendour of Siolim, a sleepy
village in North Goa known for its swaying
palms and green paddy fields.
It gets its name
from its original owner, Hilario Fernandes, one of the oldest landlords of
the village and owner of large mango groves and coconut plantations. The
famous variety of mango, Manghilar, originated from the house; Maghilar,
literally translated, means mango from the house of Hilario. Hilario is also
known for having the first tennis court in Goa.
The house dates
back 100 years and four generations and remains with the Fernandes family to
this date. One of the great great grandsons of Hilario Fernandes has made it
into a heritage resort, staying true to the simplicity and authenticity of
the Portuguese colonial era.
Guests enjoy the
genuine hospitality of the warm and friendly staff who have been associated
with the Fernandes family for generations.
