Day-1:Drive
from Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar. On the way, visit the 2400-1600BC archaeological
ruins of Lothal for an insight into the Indus Valley Civilisation and Velavadar
National Park (closed during rains but some animals can be seen from the road).
Stay at Narayani Heritage or The Royal Cottage at Nilambag
Palace Hotel. Day-2:
Morning visit to Palitana to see the magnificent Jain temples atop Shatrunjaya
Hill. Continue to Gopnath beach bungalow (Gopnath temple is said to be the
place where Lord Shiva showed Narsinh Mehta the Ras-lila of Krishna, the reason
for the temple having both saffron and white flags) and Ahmedpur Mandvi beach.
Enjoy Diu's Nagoa beach in the evening. Stay at Radhika resort by the beach.
Day-3:
See the majestic Portuguese fort, St Paul's Church, Diu museum (in a converted
church) and havelis of Diu. You can enjoy the seafront cafes and restaurants.
Return to Nagoa beach via Chakratirth to see the sunset. Stay at Radhika
resort by the beach. Day-4:
Drive to Somnath for darshan of the Shiv temple (jyotirlinga), Bakhla Tirth where
Krishna disappeared, Triveni Tirth, Sun Temple, Ahilya Holkar's temple, Prabhas
Patan Museum and Somnath Museum. Continue to Porbandar via Madhavpur where Krishna
is said to have married Rukmini. See Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace, Grishmabhawan,
Bharat Mandir and Sudamapuri temple. Enjoy the evening at Chowpatty and walk
down the seashore to see the grand palaces of the Maharanas of Porbandar. Stay
at Kaveri International/Moon Palace/Indraprastha/Kuber. Day-5:
Continue from Porbandar to Dwarka via Harshad Mata temple. Darshan of the Dwarkadish
temple. Also see the exquisite carvings of the 13th century Rukmini temple, the
Gopi Talav Tirth and the Nageshwar linga. Stay at Dwarka Residency.
Day-6:
Visit Bet Dwarka island from Okha jetty and then drive to Jamnagar.
Day-7: Morning
visit to Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary and then depart for Ahmedabad. |
