Ahmedabad -
Ahmedabad is commercial capital of Gujarat and an old city with heritage and
character and a modern Ahmedabad which is a mini-metro and a major regional
hub for travel in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Ahmedabad itself
has House of MG, which is an experience for a
heritage stay and for experiencing a well-researched ethnic (vegetarian)
Gujarati Snacks and Meal cuisine. Its snack restaurant and Meal Restaurant (Agaashiye)
is hugely popular with locals and all tourists coming to Ahmedabad. House of
MG also helps guests with exploring the old city, step wells and temples
around the area.
Ahmedabad city can
be explored for its different Vegetarian restaurants and shopping areas
(especially known for textile and handicrafts). As carrying and consumption
of Alcohol is prohibited in entire Gujarat, there are no Pubs and Discos.
Ahmedabad comes
alive during Navaratri (Festival of traditional dance and Music, around end
Sept or early October) which is spread over 10 days ending with Dussera and
where locals participate in large numbers.
Another festival
for which Ahmedabad is famous is the Kite Festival (15th Jan every year)
when the sky is filled with thousands of Kites at a time.
Ahmedabad due to
its connectivity is considered a gateway into Gujarat and Rajasthan (Udaipur
is just 250 kms from here) and therefore visited as a part of many Gujarat
itinerary and some Rajasthan itineraries.
