Fort
Auwa is located at 11 kms from Marwar (Rajasthan,
India) and placed ideally between Jodhpur and Udaipur.
Significance
: The fort and eighty villages and town belonged to the
Champawat Clan, the premier nobles of the Jodhpur kingdom. The
Champawat family still resides in the Fort. Numerous battles
and wars were fought by the Auwa cheiftains against the
Mughals, Marathas, French and lastly the British. In the Indian Mutiny of 1857 the Fort of Auwa was laid siege to by the British Army for 6 months and countless battles took place including the death of Captain Mason whose cenotaph stands where he fell in battle.
