Darjeeling -
Introduction and Geography - Darjeeling is a premier colonial era hill
station in East India at 2-3 hour drive from Bagdogra Airport and known for
its Himalayan views (Oct-Mar) and tea plantations enroute. Darjeeling is
also visited for the experience of the Heritage Railway.
Darjeeling
- Accommodation, areas and its Character - Darjeeling like almost every
colonial era hill station, is now a crowded town. Though Darjeeling is
packed with tourists during peak summer and Puja/Deewali vacation season, it
still is a favorite with corporates for regional conferences and meets
during regular season (Jan-March and July-Sept) especially for weekends.
There are a number of hotels and resorts that can serve from mid-segment to
luxury category. Availability
Scenario: Good
accommodation options are limited and weekends almost certainly go full.
Therefore its advisable to plan in
advance. April-June and Oct-Nov are peak and therefore availability is an
issue during this period for a group.
Access :
Darjeeling is connected via Bagdogra Airport and New Jalpaiguri Station (80
kms) which gets overnight trains and flights from Kolkata and Delhi
respectively.
