Estate
Bungalow is a Plantation Bungalow built
in 1940 and situated on Madukakunnu Estate, a working spice and rubber plantation
at 11 kms from Pala. The
Bungalow was built in a style which is a quaint fusion of traditional Kerala
and art déco. The house which covers an area of about 8000 sq.ft. (800 sq.m) has
four spacious well ventilated bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Verandahs, living
rooms and family rooms abound.
A
Kerala house completely made of wood which has one bed room with ensuite
bathroom, living room and its own garden adjoins the house yet is private and
secluded and over looking the quarry pond.
The
Experience - The books and magazines in the library have been collected over
the decades. The kitchen which once used to feed the
large family and ever-present guests continues to use the old wood-burning stove
though the modern gas stove has also been introduced. You can expect to dine just
the way the family used to. The
farm is certified to be organic and presently grows vanilla, pepper, nutmeg,
chilly, papaya, pineapple, banana, rubber, a host of fruits, vegetables, herbs
and medicinal plants. The manure needs of the farm are met with farm animals,
cows, buffaloes and goats. Two large freshwater ponds are the source of water
for irrigation and aquaculture.
Activities
: There is much that can be done in the farm and the neighborhood is rich
in interesting sights and experiences for day excursions. But best of all would
be to allow the spirit of the bungalow to take you into its womb just as generations
of its occupants have been. Distances
