Destination Information on Andamans - Port Blair

Port Blair - Andaman Islands are the farthest Indian territory towards the east in the Bay of Bengal, best accesed via a flight from Chennai and Kolkata. Its throwback tourism where right from the Port Blair where you arrive, to hotels and to a pace of life that is a 1970s throwback. No luxury hotels, no night life, no restaurant and no recreation facilities.

Port Blair is a sightseeing intensive place and so is a good tourist destinations. However travelers seeking leisure and recreation will be disappointed and therefore visit Port Blair mainly as a transit point for visiting Havelock Island where a few eco-resorts are situated and where Scuba / Snorkeling can be enjoyed in pristine blue waters while enjoying a remote island experience.
Baratang Island and Wandoor are another two destinations accessible from Port Blair (Baratang Island (5 hours drive) and Wandoor (29 kms - 1.5 hour drive)

Accommodation options - Port Blair does not have any specific market area or a town centre. Accommodation options are spread around the area. Surprisingly being part of an Island, it does not have a beach except Corbyn's Cove which is 7 kms away.  Good hotels here have nice sea views and a spreadout feel. Mid-segment hotels are like business hotels and recommended for a transit stay.

Typical Stay - 1 or 2 nights Seasonality : Oct-March (Winter)
